SELF-DIRECTED EDUCATION IN GERMANTOWN

Your young person directs the day. We support the learning.

Natural Creativity is a homeschool partnership center for young people ages 5 to 18 in Philadelphia's Germantown neighborhood. 35 spots remain for fall 2026.

A different kind of learning environment.

Natural Creativity is not a traditional school. There are no required classes, no grades, no tests. Young people choose what to work on based on what draws them in.

Natural Creativity is a self-directed learning community in Germantown, and a resource center for homeschooling families. Young people ages 5 to 18 come one to four days a week to a space built for them — makerspace, woodshop, art studio, library — and a community of facilitators and peers who know them.

Here, the young person directs their own learning, following what draws them in, with the loving guidance and support of the adults around them. It's a partnership: young person, family, and facilitators together. We provide the environment, the materials, and the relationships that make self-directed learning thrive.

 What a day looks like

Morning

9am-11am

Young people arrive to a cozy start — settling in, connecting with peers, easing into the day. Each group gathers to ground and check in, then everyone comes together for whole-group time: a shared activity, community conversation, or a game. After choosing the day's jobs, the first content blocks begin — movement, science, clay, music, or self-directed projects.

Midday

11am-2pm

Young people eat when they are hungry. A facilitator or parent might offer a cooking project, a local walking trip, or a board game, and young people follow what draws them — joining an offering or directing their own work.

Afternoon

2pm-3pm

Jobs done together — caring for the space is part of community life here. The day closes with group time: reflection, a read-aloud, or a game that builds connection and collaboration.

Natural Creativity is a good match if you are...

  • Already homeschooling or seriously considering it

  • Looking for a real learning community, not just a co-op or drop-off

  • Raising a young person who learns best when they have space to direct their own pace

  • A family with a neurodivergent young person who needs a flexible, low-pressure environment

  • Based in Germantown, Mount Airy, Chestnut Hill, or nearby Philadelphia neighborhoods

What this costs.

Natural Creativity is a nonprofit, and we use a sliding scale so that cost is never the reason a family can't join us. Full tuition is $4,000 per day per week, for the year — so one day a week is $4,000, two days $8,000, and so on. Many families pay less, based on what they can afford, and no family is turned away for cost. We'll talk through what works for your family on the intro call, with no pressure and no judgment.

No family is turned away because of cost. We will talk through what works for your family on the intro call.

Is this accredited?

Natural Creativity is a resource center, not a traditional school, so accreditation does not apply. Families enroll as homeschoolers with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Can my young person attend part-time?

Yes. Families choose one, two, three, or four days a week based on what fits.
